The Weld County Youth Conservation Corps (WCYCC) is proud to nominate Shelby Clark as the 2018 Corpsmember of the Year.  This past season was Shelby’s first experience in youth corps after learning about the opportunity through a friend.  She was instantly recognized as a leader – someone who could be counted on by her peers and leaders to take initiative.  Shelby’s fellow corpsmembers have noted her dedication to service and her upbeat attitude throughout the season.  Her positive attitude, leadership skills and initiative are just a few of the reasons she is deserving of this award.

Shelby was very excited to learn about the AmeriCorps Education Award available through successfully completing her service commitment to the community.  She just graduated from University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Human Services and the Education Award will greatly assist her re-paying the student loans she incurred.

In reflecting on her favorite memory during her term, Shelby said that she really enjoyed helping other corpsmembers who are working towards a GED with their studies.  WCYCC staff was not surprised at all at this as Shelby is always willing and ready to help others.  She said that she would recommend the corps experience to anyone looking to get outside of their comfort zone and try something completely new, and that the friendships formed while serving are priceless as well.  We are pleased to have had Shelby as a corpsmember serving here with our corps and hope that she considers returning for another term next season!
