Southwest Conservation Corps – Los Valles (SCC-LV) is proud to nominate Charles Brock Goode as our 2018 Corpsmember of the Year.  Brock has served three terms on summertime high school crews based in Salida. Over those three years, we have seen his amazing work ethic and a tremendous growth in leadership. This year, he was the oldest on his crew by several years and had the most experience. He became a role model for all of his fellow members, and his crew leaders relied on his experience to provide mentorship. He put his head down and got things done. The high standard Brock holds for himself – and that he inspires others to hold – is demonstrated in the quality work that he consistently produced.

Brock is currently a senior at Salida High School. He has remained with SCC-LV over the past years because it is a fun opportunity to work outdoors during the summer. He has gained an appreciation for the local trails and a knowledge of the hard work that goes into creating them.  “I would tell someone thinking of joining SCC that it is a memorable experience,” Brock said.  “It helps build character and teaches about work ethic.”  He has also learned firsthand that our public lands should not be taken for granted.

His future plans after graduating from high school include hoping to work for the US Forest Service on a fire crew during the summer and go to college majoring in finance starting in the fall.
